How Much Does a Bow Thruster Installation Cost?
Installing a bow thruster in your boat can bring peace of mind, prevent expensive collision costs and some boaters tell us it may even save your marriage! For the average boater, many marinas are difficult to navigate using only the main engines, particularly in windy conditions. With many boaters there are long gaps between boat trips and it’s normal to experience some nerves docking and maneuvering in tight marinas. To get the most out of your boat we recommend clients consider a bow thruster (and sometimes a stern thruster).
Most bow thruster installation projects end up being between ten and eighteen thousand Canadian dollars including parts, labour and yard charges. The project generally includes system and location design, precision cutting and installation of a thruster tube, fibreglass, gelcoat, primer and anti-fouling paint finishing, mechanical installation, electrical wiring and support work, possible changes to a battery bank, helm control installation and sea trialling and orientation.
At Bluewater, we usually install Side-Power thrusters but have installed many other brands (including Lewmar, Vetus, and Max-Power bow and stern thrusters) due to client preference or legacy equipment.
